Eating in Dreams? What to Pray

Many Christians report eating in dreams. Others have food offered to them or they’re being fed. What do these dreams mean? Sometimes there are non-food substances placed or offered for the child of God to eat in the dreams. Eating in a vision or dream isn’t always a bad thing. In this post I want to help you determine what to do after you have had an eating vision or dream.

First we have to understand that biblically, the stomach symbolizes the spirit of a human being.

Proverbs, Chapter 20, Verse 27: The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly.

When Jesus said to take his body and eat it (represented by the bread) he was telling us to feed our stomach (spirit) with Himself. As Christians we are to feed our spiritual stomach with Jesus, the Word of God through taking communion and by regularly meditating on the written word of God. When we do this, our spirit man gets stronger, which means we are more able to resist temptations and we more boldly preach Christ to others.

This is not a good dream!

Second, we need to remember that Jesus said no food can defile a person. In Mark 7:15, Jesus is teaching His disciples that food cannot defile a person, but it’s what comes out of our mouth that defiles us.

14} And when he had called all the people unto him, he said unto them, Hearken unto me every one of you, and understand: ¹⁵ There is nothing from without a man, that entering into him can defile him: but the things which come out of him, those are they that defile the man. ¹⁶ If any man have ears to hear, let him hear. ¹⁷ And when he was entered into the house from the people, his disciples asked him concerning the parable. ¹⁸ And he saith unto them, Are ye so without understanding also? Do ye not perceive, that whatsoever thing from without entereth into the man, it cannot defile him; ¹⁹ Because it entereth not into his heart, but into the belly, and goeth out into the draught, purging all meats? ²⁰ And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. ²¹ For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, ²² Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: ²³ All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.

We can deduce that what the devil is doing through encouraging eating strange food in our dreams and visions is an attempt to get into our heart and stop us from seeking the Lord. If the adversary can enter our dream and get us to eat foods or substances that look appealing, much like the fruit in the garden of Eden, we have now received the things the devil offered into our spiritual belly (our heart). However it may not even be food what we are eating, but substances-as-pharmakia, which looks like food but actually brings mental or emotional heaviness, confusion or lack of faith. These substances can also be intended to create physical illness in a believer.

If Jesus says no food can defile a man (because it enters the stomach (spirit) and is excreted) the enemy hopes to make something appearing as food to defile the heart and soul so that soon we begin to speak doubt or lose our prayer life. 

WHAT TO PRAY:

“Father of Lights, I go directly to the Throne of Grace and I repent eating anything in my dreams that you King of Glory did not wish for me to eat. I boldly ask for your forgiveness for eating in dreams or visions. Please expose to me the root of the trickery and warfare directed at me in order to try to weaken my faith and zeal for You. Father according to Mark 6 verse 13, you say that God will one day destroy food and the stomach. Father, I stand on that statement that you can destroy evil food! I ask you to destroy all evil physical and spiritual food that I have accepted that was intended to destroy my spirit, soul or body. Father as you have stated you would one day, let it be today that you destroy all evil food and preserve my stomach in Jesus’ Name. I also stand on Mark 16:18 which tells me that if I should consume poison, it will not harm me. I call forth that promise for me life right now in Jesus’ Name.

This is not good. Do not eat soup in a dream!

Thank You Living God for providing for me warring and ministering angels that are encamped about me. I ask them to guard the gates of my dreams and to enter my dreams every night to minister to me during times of temptation in the night as I sleep. By praying this, I know that I WILL receive angelic help to begin to have more victories in Jesus’ name! Amen.”

All in all, eating defiled, dirty or suspect food in dreams should be looked at as an attack. It should be handled with warfare prayer and sometimes fasting. There should be no need for us to eat anything suspicious or unsettling in dreams.

On the other hand, there can be instances of eating blessed spiritual food, or spiritual manna. These foods will be biblical foods like anointed oil, clean water, honey, pure bread, pure raw vegetables, fresh fruit, whole grains or milk. God has already created ways for us to strengthen our spirit man by choosing to feed ourselves spiritually in the waking life. If we want to supplement that process, we can sleep with an audio bible playing and receive the Word of God into our spirit man as we sleep. Sometimes this will lead us to partake in anointed spiritual food in our dreams. 

Always stand on the Word of God to claim freedom from any type of dream defilement. Keep praying the above prayer regularly to defeat a negative eating dream at its root until you get stronger and the devil is defeated in this area. As you grow in spiritual maturity, the enemy might begin to get more creative, more subtle, more sneaky. Keep watch and pay attention to your dreams so that the enemy does not trick you into absorbing unclean substances by offering your favorite foods through your favorite people.

As mentioned above, not all food dreams require warfare. If you see food without eating it, this can be a good sign of blessing.

This dream can indicate fellowship and blessing if you are sitting down with people and food but not eating.

Here are two examples of food appearing in a dream that suggests very positive things for you:

1. Preparing food without eating it – This might mean you are preparing to offer a spiritual teaching of the word of God. A teacher (five-fold ministry) often dreams about kitchens, preparing food for people, restaurants and dining rooms with many people present. If you dream you are handling or distributing food or setting tables for a dinner, this can suggest to you that you are to become a bible teacher, speaker or other type of Christian educator.
2. Seeing a buffet, sitting at a dining table or ordering food from a menu without eating it – If there are no signs of evil presences in these dreams, “food about to be served” dreams indicate that there are blessings and sometimes fellowship or celebration heading your way. It can also sometimes mean you are preparing for the coming bridal supper with the Lamb of God.

As you eat more spiritual food (meaning you read and listen to more of the Word of God) you might see more dreams and visions of eating, not less. This means there is a counterforce trying to balance out or steal away the word from your spirit. So the thing you need to do to keep the word that has entered you is to do what the word of God says to do, to be a hearer AND A DOER of the word.

Remember that buffet dreams are often good if you are not actively eating. In real life, remember to pray over your food before you eat.

James 1:22-25
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man who looks intently at his natural face in a mirror. For he looks at himself and goes away and at once forgets what he was like. But the one who looks into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and perseveres, being no hearer who forgets but a doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.

James 4:17
So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

Romans 2:13
For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law who will be justified.


WHAT ABOUT BEING OFFERED FOOD BUT NOT EATING IT?

God is a merciful God. You might begin catching strange food, drink or medicine being offered to you in dreams or visions before you eat it. As this happens, be intent to take the strange substances directly to the Throne of Grace, give the burden of it to Jesus Christ and boldly ask the Lord to take the food, drink or medicine as you have rejected it and want nothing to do with it. Leave the items and ask for everything related to it to be washed from you. Ask for it to be used as evidence against your enemies in the courts of heaven. Ask for mercy and favor every time these strange offers come and ask for angelic hosts to be assigned to fight against these agents of darkness.
