PRAY FOR A MARRIAGE THAT GLORIFIES JESUS CHRIST
LET GOD CHOOSE YOUR SPOUSE
Despite what the world may want to convey, marriage between a man and a woman is for you. The work of Jesus Christ on the cross says all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, but all can be saved and put on the new man. Because of the redemptive blood of Jesus, all believers, no matter their past, can go on to powerfully glorify Jesus Christ through marriage. God will give you a suitable partner if you ask in prayer.
God sets the solitary in families: he brings out those which are bound with chains: but the rebellious dwell in a dry [land]. Psalms 68:6
Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him. Genesis 2:18
Marriage is, next to salvation, arguably the second most important decision you can make in life. So take your time and seek the counsel of God when making the decision to marry. Engage in fasting, prayer, and obedience to the word of God. (And test the spirits, as the devil will send close counterfeits)!
Marriage is designed to glorify Jesus Christ. It’s a covenant that has purpose in glory. Those we yoke ourselves to become ones we plow the faith with. Asking God to arrange your marriage will protect you from making hurtful decisions. Man and woman should use courtship to determine if you have the same eyes, heart and vision for how you will collaborate in service to Jesus Christ.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” Matthew 29:30
And Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan. Genesis 28:1
We need Jesus every step of the way. Surely this is why you’re here today! Pray this prayer to engage God. He will direct you to that spouse He’s chosen for you. Pray with faith, draw close to Jesus Christ every day, and make listening for God a lifestyle. This is your protection as well as your path to blessing!
PRAY OUT LOUD:
Father, You consider it a good thing when a man finds his wife and the Lord favors him (Proverbs 18:22).
Father, Your word says that marriage is honorable (Hebrews 13:4).
I have faith that the promises in Your Word are true, that Your hand saves, and Your ear hears (Isaiah 59:1).
Lord I stand on your Word that You set the solitary in families (Psalm 68:6) and you make the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children (Psalm 113:9).
By faith and not by sight (2 Cor 5:7) I believe your Word is true and that I will be blessed with a family that brings me great joy.
BIBLICAL MARRIAGE PURPOSE DECLARATION:
Father, You designed marriage so that man and woman can work together; help each other if one of us falls; keep each other warm at night; and fight together against our common enemy. In Christ, woman is not independent of man nor man of woman, but we are meant to rely on each other and support one another (1 Corinthians 11:11).
Father, marriage is valuable to You. You say that a prudent wife is from the Lord (Proverbs 19:14), and a wife of noble character is worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10), which tells me that You highly value a wife refined by the Word of God.
PRAY THIS REQUEST FOR GOD TO REVEAL YOUR SPOUSE:
Father, in the name of Jesus, I ask that You would reveal to me the godly spouse You have chosen for me.
And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept. Genesis 29:11
Abba Father, prepare my spouse to be a pillar of prayer, strength and morality. Please guard my future spouse from sin and protect him/her from backsliding. I pray that he/she will locate me in Your perfect timing, Lord. May we both recognize that You brought us together. And may we enjoy a lifelong marriage.
Father God, I repent for any rebellion, pride, or unbiblical beliefs that would block me from Your intended covenant of marriage. I repent for any misplaced desire for marriage, engagement or a wedding that might come from my flesh or emotional desires. (Exodus 20:3).
Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, I bind and cast out any unclean spirit within me that does not agree with the marriage You planned for husband and wife.
Father as You prepare my future spouse, help me focus on renewing my mind to good discernment of Your perfect will.
Father, let me not rely on my own understanding (Romans 12:2) and try to act in the flesh to find my spouse without prayerful consideration of Your instruction.
Abba Father, keep me from attaching myself to any wrong person by my deceitful heart (Jeremiah 7:14), soulish lusts (1 Peter 2:11) or crafty seduction (2 Tim 3:13).
Father, guard us both from being unequally yoked with unbelievers or lukewarm believers, whether in courting or marriage, in business partnership, or in fellowship. (2 Corinthians 6:14)
Lord, I take hold of all healing available to me by the stripes of Jesus Christ. And by faith I take hold of the same healing for my future spouse. (Psalm 147:3)
Mighty God, I offer my body as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to You, which is my reasonable service (Romans 12:1).
King of glory, guard my sexual purity and the sexual purity of the spouse You have for me (Hebrews 13:4).
Father, in the Name of Jesus Christ, free the both of us even now from any unknown hindrances to a healthy and godly marriage. You are the one who redeems our lives from the pit, who crowns us with love and compassion, who satisfies our desires with good things (Psalm 103:4-5).
PRAY TO AGREE WITH THE WORD OF GOD:
Almighty God, I ask that You bring me a spouse whom You know, who listens for, knows and obeys Your voice (John 10:27).
Please bring me or lead me to a spouse who will cherish me and build me up (Proverbs 31:28); a spouse who will honor me (I Peter 3:7) and our marriage covenant made before God (2 Kings 23:3); a spouse who will be a godly parent.
Ancient of Days, please prepare us both for a marriage that glorifies you through biblical roles of male and female. Where we both understand and celebrate the husband’s role as spiritual head, protector and provider and the wife’s role as helpmeet (Eph 5:23)(Genesis 2:18).
Blessed Redeemer, please give me a spouse that I will be attracted to physically, emotionally, and spiritually (Song of Solomon 1:2,15,16).
I agree and pray that the husband in our covenant should be prepared to love the wife as his own body, praise her (Proverbs 31:28) and not be bitter against her (Colossians 3:18), remembering that he who loves his wife loves himself (Eph 5:28).
I agree that the husband is to live with his God-ordained wife according to knowledge of the things of God, honoring the wife as having a smaller and weaker body frame, and honoring her as his co-heir of salvation, understanding that his neglect of honoring his wife can hinder his prayers (1 Peter 3:7).
Lord I agree that the husband should be prepared to demonstrate spiritual headship in the house, so the wife can ask the husband about the things of Christ and he can answer (1 Cor 14:35).
I agree and pray that the wife in our marriage covenant would always have wisdom and kindness on her tongue (Proverbs 31:26).
Lord, prepare the wife in our covenant to be subject to the God-ordained husband, that her husband may be won without a word by his wife’s respectful and pure conduct (I Peter 3:1).
Lord help and prepare the wife to labor side by side with her husband in the gospel (Philippians 4).
Father of Lights, I confess Lord God that Jesus Christ is before all things, and in Him all things hold together (Colossians 1:17). Thank you for giving me a spouse that desires to do all things to the glory of Jesus Christ (1 Cor 10:31).
Father, thank You for preparing my future spouse and I to love Christ Jesus with all our heart, mind, soul and strength — to be believers after Your very heart (Matthew 22:37). Let us be meditating on Your precepts day and night, and bring us both success in all we do (Psalm 1, Joshua 1).
Bless us and fill us with the knowledge of Your love (Philippians 1:9) and Your Holy Spirit (Matt 3:11, Acts 1:5). May we always abound in joy and in the fruits of the Spirit (Romans 15:13).
Lord, keep our eyes to look away from anything that would tempt lust (Job 31:1), and away from all other wicked things (Psalm 101:3), keeping our ways and hearts pure (Psalm 119:9-10).
I pray that both myself and my future spouse would have a genuine high regard for purity in singleness, righteousness in life, and the sanctity of marriage, understanding that You will judge the fornicator, the sexually immoral and the adulterous (Hebrews 13:4, Eph 5).
And Jacob served seven years for Rachel; and they seemed unto him but a few days, for the love he had to her. Genesis 29:20
Father prepare us to treat each other with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace (Ephesians 4:2-3).
Lord God, instill in both of our hearts Your definition of love – a love that is patient and kind; a love that does not envy or boast; a love that is not arrogant or rude; one that does not insist on its own way and is not irritable or resentful; a love that does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth.
Prepare us both that no corrupt communication would proceed out of our mouths, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace to each other (Ephesians 4:29, Proverbs 21:23).
Prepare us so that we would have the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Lord grant us hearts that are free from selfish ambition or conceit, and that in humility we would count each other more significant than ourselves.
Lord prepare us to be able to follow Christ’s example, being willing to give up what we may be entitled to and willing to serve one another in tangible and sacrificial ways (Philippians 2:1-8).
Father, I yoke myself to You and give You my heavy burdens (Matt 11:30) so that I bring no heaviness but rather strength to my marriage (Psalms 119:28).
I ask that my coming spouse knows how to yoke himself / herself to You, Lord Jesus Christ, and that he/she loves to enter into Your rest.
Father, I will find things to be thankful for while I hope for better things, with patience during trials but unceasing in prayer toward my goal (1 Thes 5:16).
In this period of waiting, I will contemplate my betrothal to You Lord, understanding the body of Christ, the church, is betrothed to the bridegroom and being prepared for the wedding supper of the Lamb (Revelation 19:7-9, 2 Corinthians 11:2, Isaiah 54:5).
Father of Lights, I will not be anxious, but as I present my requests to you, flood me with the peace that surpasses all understanding so my heart and my mind are guarded in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:6,7).
Blessed Redeemer, You never come late. (Jeremiah 1:12). In Mark 11:24 Your Word declares that whatever I ask in prayer, to believe that I have received it, and it will be mine.
Father, in Your time, You make all things beautiful. (Eccl 3:11). Your Word says the Lord will perfect that which concerns me and that your mercy endures forever. And so I pray you will not forsake me, who you created (Psalm 138:8) to love, worship and serve you (Deut 11:13).
Amen.
